Wearables leader Fitbit to launch on Amazon on July 1: Report

Earlier this month, IDC reported that Xiaomi is the world’s second most shipped wearable device in the world. Considering that Xiaomi is a relatively newer product with significant reach and recall in markets such as India, the world leader in wearables, Fitbit, has been evaluating its entry into India since last year.
In an interview to Indian Express, Steve Morley, VP and General Manager – Asia Pacific at Fitbit confirmed that Amazon will have a full Fitbit store from July 1. Fitbit specialises in wearables catering to a wide range consumers – from amateurs to professional athletes.
Late last month, Fitbit was accused by rival Jawbone of attempting to steal core confidential data about Jawbone’s business.
The lawsuit, filed in San Francisco Superior Court, alleges Fitbit engaged in a clandestine effort to steal talent, trade secrets and intellectual property. A number of recently departed employees used USB thumb drives and other tactics to take information about Jawbone’s supply chain, gross margins, product lineup and market predictions, the lawsuit said.
Fitbit, which makes both wristbands and clippable devices that monitor a user’s fitness activity, filed for an initial public offering earlier this month. The company’s revenue almost tripled to $745.4 million in 2014 and it posted a profit of $131.8 million.
A webpage for Fitbit is currently live at Amazon India.
