Portable software versions are software packed in such a manner that it can be used normally by just clicking on software’s .exe (portable version) file. You don’t need to install the software in your system to run it if you have the software in portable version.
If you don’t want to install a new software, as it consumes disk-space, may start running various services in background and exploiting your computer’s resources, you should download it’s portable version.
But, the problem arises is, very few software has readymade portable versions available online. So, for most of the software, you waste your time in searching their portable versions and finally end up with having its setup files to install on your PC.
Today, to help you get out of this problem I am telling you how to create portable version of every Windows software.
Isn’t it cool? You can put all software packed in portable version, uninstall their normal version to free up disk-space, registry space, stop software-specific processes and background services to make your PC fast. And when you’ll require to run them, you can do so by just clicking the portable version of software.
How To Create Portable Software?
To create portable version of software, we are going to use a software called VMware ThinApp.
VMware ThinApp is especially created to serve easy program virtualization. It lets you to create portable versions of normal software for faster application deployment and east application migration.
The software is capable for to create portable versions of not only application software such as web browsers (Mozilla firefox, chrome, internet explorer), MS-Office, Adobe Readers, Photoshop, Skype etc. but also various system-utility and system-supporting software such as Java. .NET, Tune-Up utilities and many more.
How To Use VMware ThinApp To Create Portable Software?
Step 1: Download VMware ThinApp (follow this link) and install it on your PC first.
Step 2: Now, navigate to Start menu. Choose VMWARE from “All Programs” and select “ThinApp Setup Capture” shortcut.
Step 3: Now, ThinApp Setup Capture window appears to guide you in the process of creating virtualized (portable) application. When the window appears, click “Next”.
Step 4: Close all the applications that might affect software virtualization process. I recommend you to close all the applications your are running, except VMware ThinApp to avoid unexpected interrupts and boosting performance of virtualization process. Click Next.
Step 5: VMware ThinApp will now scan for the required files. It may take some time. Do not touch anything while the process is going on. It will let you know automatically when done.
Step 6: When finished, minimize the ThinApp window as indicated in the screen.
Step 7: Now, install any software for which you want to create portable software. After installation, validate the software by entering key/serial number (if it requires one). Configure your installed software fully and run it once.
Step 8: When you have done with installing the targeted application, maximize the ThinApp window and click on Next to rescan your system again.
VMware ThinApp will now show you all the installed application of your system of which you can create portable versions. Just choose any one of them.
Step 9: Click on Next and choose where to create portable version of the selected software.
Step 10: Click ‘Next’. Choose location and then again click “Next”. Here, click Merged isolation mode and click Next.
Step 11: At this screen, under Compression section, click Fast compression and then click on Next.
Step 12: Now, the process of collecting data to create portable version of selected software starts. VMware ThinApp will now create project that includes putting all needed files in one folder, registry values, etc.
When it have finishes its task, click “Build Now” button.
Step 13: Once the software has done with creating portable version of selected software, click on Browse project and then Finish button.
Step 14: Clicking on Browsing projects will indicate you to folder (BIN) especially build for your portable software. Browse the BIN folder and you’ll find your selected software’s portable version here.
Now, you can copy it anywhere, and run the software directly from this portable version of software. No need to install.
Any good alternative?
Well, VMware ThinApp is already very easy to use for creating software. Incase, if you can’t use it or facing errors while using the software, you can use another similar software Cameyo.
